Cut in slices 1 or 2 ripe red tomatoes, afterhaving removed the seeds। Arrange in asingle layer in a baking tin, sprinkle withfine breadcrumbs seasoned with pepperand salt. Put a little bit of butter on eachslice, bake 15 minutes, and serve onhot buttered toast; pour the gravy fromit round the dish. A few drops of lemonjuice are an improvement.
